After a few years away you’ll be pleased to hear that the Arkesden Hill Climb is back! The monstrous Col du Long Lane has been staring defiantly at cyclists from Saffron Walden and the surrounding area, but here is the chance to show it who’s boss... This year Dyce Fitness has teamed up with Walden Velo to run the event and it looks set to be another cracker!

After several years of being closed to the public, unless you paid £15 entry fee, Shuttleworth's cafe is open again. However, ONLY, if there isn't an event on, so check their website before setting out: https://www.shuttleworth.org/
The Runway cafe now has a full menu, with cooked options and loads more space inside than it used to have. The old side gate off Hill Lane is accessible again (only when there isn't an event on), so you don't need to use their new main drive off the main road.
NB If you get there and it is closed, Moggerhanger Tea Rooms is just up the road, so a great Plan B cafe.
We have a new road at Northstowe! Northstowe has a new access road connecting the B1050 at a roundabout and joining up with the Guided Busway.

Brighton Ride Cancelled … with day light now closing in rapidly I’m going to cancel this year’s ride, as if we have any significant delays through punctures or other unforeseen delays we may run out of daylight. Scheduling the ride has been challenging this year, mainly due to strikes on the rail network…. I’ll reschedule for late May, early June 2024.
Huge congratulations to ELSR rider Mathilde Pauls. Yesterday she was crowned World Masters Individual Pursuit Champion (40-44) at the World Masters Track Championships in Manchester! Just amazing.
On top of the excellent fast service, it turns out the lovely ladies of Mill End Plants also provide field hospital services. Sean took a bullet to the knee from sniper fire during this morning's Doppio ride, but was patched up at the cafe! Ben Chapman also offered the last rites, possibly a bit too enthusiastically..
Not often we find a new cafe. This one is only open Wednesday and Sunday, but it has a museum attached and a Mustang P51 to look at.
